PictureAnja Reuter and Ribeka Kim from "West Coast Riders" – CHILD's 2014 Vancouver team
Brian Carney, CEO, Blue Sea Philanthropy, shared some exciting insights with RIDE charities on youth involvement, last year.

He asked Tiffany Irwin, long time RIDE staffer, to do some digging and find out what kinds of donations youth and young adult participants (aged 18-24) raised last year.

Here's what Irwin discovered:

Youth Riders Raise GOOD Money:
We were blown away to find out that the average youth rider raised nearly $200, Carney wrote.

Youth Team Captains Raise GREAT Money:
  • According to Irwin's findings, Team Captains between the ages of 18-24 raise an average of $298.27—this is more than the average adult rider.
  • Youth Team Captains also had more donors and larger donors than other non-captain youth, and together youth captains raised 22% of all money raised by youth registrants. Impressive right?

More Youth Facts
  • 78% raised money (showing a higher buy-in than adult riders)
  • 57% were females (we just thought this was interesting because girls rule)
  • Males and females raised about the same amount of donations (but the girls did by a hair of 6% more)
  • 26% rode 50 km (that's so far) and raised on average $263 (the longer the ride, the more money they raised)

Younger youth stats!
Irwin also measured some stats for youth aged 13-17.
  • They raised an average of $135
  • Captains in this age group fundraised an average of $216
  • 78% raised money (the same as the older youth)
  • 21% rode 50km

I have to say, having worked and volunteered with young adults and adolescents for the past ten-ish years, this does not surprise me in the least. Youth is a period in a person's life when they are incredibly passionate about what matters to them. They are inspiring in their enthusiasm for good causes. Their desire to improve the world is infectious.

In conclusion, CHILD wants you, Millennials,
 teens, and tweens!
