CHILD is a Canadian charity that partners with local organizations across the world to bridge the gap and empower communities in need through enhancing nutrition, improving education and providing disaster relief. CHILD provides hope, healing, life, caring and compassion to men, women and especially children, regardless of race, creed, religion or gender. CHILD provides this on three continents: India, South Africa and Haiti.
All donations received by CHILD go directly to our partner organizations. CHILD is run exclusively by volunteers and all administration costs are covered by another source. You can read more about our commitment to financial integrity here. |

history
CHILD was originally founded in 2004 under the name Haiti Children's Benefit Foundation (HCBF). As it expanded its outreach more internationally, HCBF changed its name to Community Health International Learning & Development Foundation (CHILD) in 2011.
In 2011, CHILD started their partnership with Metropolitan Mission in India. The partnership started by CHILD funding rice for the MM Children’s Home, sarees for poor widows, and a well in a drought stricken village. The program has now expanded greatly, which you can read about here. |
In 2014, CHILD partnered with Slangspruit School in South Africa to fund a milk program for the kindergarten and grade 1 students. The program gradually expanded to sponsoring students who graduated from Slangspruit to attend Queen Alexandra High School. Both programs wrapped up in 2021.
In 2017, CHILD partnered with Haiti Children’s Home’s nutrition program to provide nutritional supplements to malnourished children. You can read more about this program here. |
In 2020, CHILD started a new partnership in South Africa with SAHARA. CHILD provides medications that are used in addition to counselling programs SAHARA runs to help people reduce or stop alcohol, tobacco or drug use. You can read more about this program here.
