Starvation is not necessarily something we need to worry about right now in Canada, but for the most vulnerable in Indian society, it is an imminent threat caused by the lockdown due to Coronavirus. India is currently locked down for three weeks to reduce the spread of the pandemic. As a result, many who are bedridden, handicapped, or beggars are not able to access food. Thankfully our partner in India, Metropolitan Mission, has been allowed to send out volunteers to deliver ready to eat meals to those who cannot get food in their city. This will bring some hope to many who are suffering in this difficult period.
There is also a great need for wells at this time due to severe drought. COVID19 adds
to the need as without water there cannot be sufficient hand hygiene to combat the virus. Due to crowded conditions and lack of sanitation the country faces huge challenges. Metropolitan Mission has drilled more than 30 wells in the past with our CHILD supporter's donations and hopes to drill 10 more this year as the situation is desperate.
