We visited the Metropolitan Mission School and got introduced to the six teachers and their classrooms. We were amazed at the eagerness of the young children to learn their ABC's in Telegu and English and the care and pride they took into sharing their beautiful work with us. Each grade with 20-30 children has one teacher. In contrast most of these children would have to share one teacher between many grades in the village, which would hamper their education. The level of poverty struck us when we realized that it was difficult for the parents to pay the bus fee, which would amount to 7 Canadian cents a day.
After school we witnessed the determination of the children in the home to study, prepare for their exams and learn to sew. They seem to understand that education is a gift that should not be taken for granted.
What a blessing, that these children from impoverished homes could get a quality education and 95- 98%% of them would find a job after completion of their schooling.
