Reflections on Another Successful Fundraising Dinner
October 16, 2016

We had a wonderful evening at our fourth annual Power of Protein Fundraising Dinner. This year, we relocated to Narayannis Restaurant where we enjoyed deliciously spicy South African-Indian cuisine, good company, compelling conversations, and a few laughs.  We were thrilled to have the restaurant  filled to the brim with people as passionate about work in the developing world as we are. Together we can bridge the gap and help break the cycle of poverty!

Our program included presentations, slides, and videos featuring what Community Health International is about and our current projects in India and South Africa. Tragically, due to weather, our guest speaker Carolyn Burns from the Ukulapha Project in South Africa, was unable to join us. (Her flight from Victoria was cancelled because of a fierce storm.) She was much missed but able to send us a video with updates on what they have been doing at the Elementary and High School they work with in South Africa.

Thank you so much for your incredible support! And an extra big thank you to an anonymous donor who, once again, made this possible by matching donations up to $10 000!

At the event our MC, Tyler Austring, made an off-handed comment that with $40 000 we could accomplish all of the projects we were profiling that evening. Thanks to the fact that we have some surplus donations still outstanding from last year, CHILD will be able to do just that!

The donations will be split between projects we are involved with, in both South Africa and India.

South Africa - Ukulapha Projects:
1. CHILD will be able to provide two full scholarships to the top academic students at Slangspruit Elementary School, enabling them to to attend a good quality high school for the 2017-2021 school years.
2.  CHILD will be able to continue to provide milk for 300 children in Kindergarten and Grade One.
3. CHILD will be able to continue to supplement the basic government lunches with protein for 1,050 impoverished children at Slangspruit Elementary School four times per week.

India - Metropolitan Mission Projects:
1. CHILD will be able to continue to assist with the purchase of locally grown rice, a staple source in the diet, for 250 children living in the Children's Home.
2. CHILD will also be able to provide regular nutritious protein supplementation to meals including: lentils, eggs and chicken for special occasions.
Thank You For Supporting These Very Worthy Causes!
