A few days have passed and we are adapting to life in the home of about 200+ children in MV Gudem. It was a challenging few days, with hot and humid weather and we were tired due to jet lag. We struggled with culture shock, with the unpredicatability of the overcrowded streets and being so aware of widespread poverty. But the hospitality and kindness of our hosts and the joy and love of the children made up for all discomfort. There is so much to learn from the spontaneous joy of children. They have so little but are grateful for eveything. We could live and participate in their lives.
It has convinced us that the rice that was donated by CHILD Foundtaion is well spent. Although there is not a lot of protein, no desserts and a minimum of fruits and vegetables, nobody goes hungry as there is always good tasting rice to eat with lentils.
